Macedonian Infantry Officer with Standard

This is the Macedonian Infantry Officer with Standard that first appeared in the Miniature Figurines 72/73 catalogue as PB 1s and subsequently in the 75 catalogue as PB 1. 

Both PB ranges are based on Phil Barker's books Armies of the Macedonian and Punic Wars and Armies and Enemies of Imperial Rome. This figure is taken from illustration 1 in AMPW. 

The 's' catalogue designation refers to the then new style 25mm size models as opposed to the earlier and smaller 1/72 range. The 's' stands for 'special'. This transition from the older style to the 'S Range' was completed throughout the Minifigs range soon after the PB range was launched, and dropped from the code descriptions thereafter. 

The base is stamped PB 1 and has an unusual semi-circular projection to the front - presumable to stop the model falling over. This is sometimes found cut back to fit the model onto a unit base - removing the code number in the process.

Although described as Macedonian I've no doubt this chap would willingly serve in any roughly contemporary Hellenistic force; perhaps a little further afield with a little modification to the standard ornament.
