Both PB ranges are based on Phil Barker's books Armies of the Macedonian and Punic Wars, and Armies and Enemies of Imperial Rome. This figure is based on illustration 32 in AMPW.
The 's' catalogue designation on early models refers to the then newer '25mm' size as opposed to the earlier 1/72nd range. This didn't last long and Minifigs soon dropped the 's'.
The pose makes for a nice forward thrusting phalanx, but moving the units into 'touch' can be a challenge! The metal used is very pliable and the sarissa usually gets bent, but it takes a lot of punishment before breaking!
As usual for Minifigs foot figures, the code is stamped prominently onto the upper surface of the base.
