Numidian Light Cavalryman

This is the Numidian Light Cavalryman that first appears in the Miniature Figurines 72/73 catalogue as PBC 46s, and subsequently in the 75 catalogue as PBC 46.

As with all the 'PB' range it is derived from Phil Barker's pair of books Armies of the Macedonian and Punic Wars and Armies and Enemies of Imperial Rome. PBC standing for Phil Barker Cavalry. This figure corresponds with illustration 46 in AMPW.

The pose is a fairly common one for javelin-armed cavalry from this range, giving the figure a nice purposeful appearance. This one has a hefty javelin, and although I don't have examples to hand I imagine the same model can be found with the thinner style javelin too.

The mount shown here is the PBH 63-218 Numidian/Moorish Pony. The original release offered PBH 63s Numidian Pony as a separate code. By the time of the 75 catalogue both had been discontinued and replaced by the larger A4 Numidian Pony Galloping.

The development of Minifigs horses is a study in itself!
